Frequently Asked Questions

We're out-of-network with most insurance companies, but we'll happily provide a paid receipt you can submit for reimbursement. Some homebirth clients find success with GAP exceptions for in-network reimbursement rates; otherwise services may be reimbursable at your plan's out-of-network rate. We work with a third-party billing company for homebirth families — visit earthsidebilling.com to start a Verification of Benefits (VOB).
Yes! As a Certified Nurse Midwife, we can write prescriptions. When applicable, we typically offer nonpharmaceutical options first (diet, exercise, natural approaches), but we understand that isn't always the best or preferred choice.
Yes! We support VBACs throughout pregnancy and, for those who meet safety criteria, through homebirth if desired.
We support twins as co-managed care. We do not attend twins for homebirth.
All certified midwives are trained in breech birth. If we know your baby is breech in the final weeks, we'll work hard to encourage baby to flip before labor. If baby remains breech, under the right circumstances we'll collaborate with experienced midwife peers to ensure a qualified team is present if you choose to deliver at home. If you choose a hospital birth, we have wonderful colleagues we trust with your delivery.
It means we'll be your midwife for the majority of your pregnancy care while working closely with other providers to ensure the safety of your pregnancy and/or delivery. The specifics vary depending on the reason co-management is needed.
